Since 2018, SBP has partnered with Atrium Ljungberg to develop one of Stockholm’s largest solar power facilities in Sickla—featuring 13 installations and a total installed capacity of 3.4 MW.

Since 2018, SBP and Atrium Ljungberg have been collaborating on the development of solar energy in the Sickla area, one of Stockholm’s best-known neighborhoods for retail, offices, and culture. What began as individual installations has, over time, grown into a comprehensive energy program, in which solar panels have become an integral part of the area’s development.

Over the years, SBP has delivered 13 solar power plants in the area, with a total installed capacity of 3.4 MW. For several years, Sickla has thus been one of the largest contiguous solar power areas in Stockholm—a clear result of Atrium Ljungberg’s long-term commitment to sustainable urban development.

The collaboration has encompassed the entire value chain, from identifying suitable roof surfaces and conducting energy simulations to design, installation, and commissioning. This level of comprehensive responsibility has been essential for developing a project of this scale, where each new installation must integrate seamlessly with the existing infrastructure.

Peter Thörnberg, who has played a key role in the projects on the client side, describes the collaboration:

– It works perfectly in my book. I hardly even notice you’re there because you’re so self-sufficient, and that saves me time. Your project team feels a bit like a perpetual motion machine that just keeps chugging along through the various stages of the project.

Not just a partnership on solar panels

The latest project in the area also demonstrates how this collaboration continues to evolve—not only through new installations, but also by optimizing and further developing existing facilities.

At the Magasinet building, SBP is carrying out a major project in which an existing solar panel system is being dismantled as part of a roof replacement, only to be reinstalled and expanded at the same time. The existing capacity of 254 kWp will be supplemented by an additional 207 kWp, further enhancing the property’s energy performance.

The project also includes a new waterproofing membrane covering an area of 7,500 square meters and is being carried out in the heart of a bustling commercial district, where logistics and coordination are crucial to minimizing the impact on the surrounding area.

Mobin Jafari, project manager at SBP, highlights the complexity of the implementation:

– This is a major project that we are carrying out in close collaboration with Atrium Ljungberg. I must give them great credit for deciding to further expand the existing capacity in conjunction with the roof renovation.

– There are several tasks taking place simultaneously, which places high demands on both logistics and coordination. Our experience with similar projects has been a key factor in our success here.

A strong sustainability strategy underpins these initiatives

Atrium Ljungberg has a clear sustainability strategy in which solar energy is a key component, and the investments in Sickla are part of the company’s efforts to create future-proof urban environments.

For SBP, this partnership is a clear example of what it takes to succeed in large-scale energy projects over the long term: technical expertise, structured project management, and the ability to deliver consistently—year after year.

After more than a decade of joint development in the region, the partnership continues to grow stronger, with new projects that both build on and enhance previous investments.
