We have much of our power production in the north and limited transmission capacity to the south, where the usage is greatest. This is what Anna Werner, CEO of Svensk Solenergi, sees as a fundamental problem in the Swedish electricity grid.
Her solution is clear: the electricity grid must be relieved by green technology.
– Strengthening the electricity grid is important, but takes a long time. Solar power and batteries are growing rapidly and can therefore become an important complementary part of the solution. There are international examples of how large battery storage facilities are used to successfully balance the electricity grid, says Anna Werner.
Wants solar cell subsidies back for companies
She continues by saying that the government should reinstate solar cell subsidies for companies. Solar cells for companies should be a good investment and help to alleviate a burden like the one last summer, which led to the oil-fired Karlshamnsverket temporarily being started up.
– Solar power alone could not have solved the problems we saw last summer, but together with batteries it could have. Therefore, it is a shame that the government has withdrawn the solar cell subsidy for companies so quickly. The government should decide to give 10 percent in solar cell subsidies on investments in solar cell systems and replenish funds so that all companies that have applied for solar cell subsidies also receive it during 2021.
