It should now be easier to have the opportunity to charge your electric car in Stockholm. If a tenant requires a charging station for their electric car, the landlord must install a charging box, according to a decision from the City of Stockholm.

Municipal housing companies must now install electric car chargers if tenants want them, writes Allt Om Elbil, referring to Sveriges Radio. This is a decision from the Green-Liberal majority in the City of Stockholm, which makes it easier for those who live in rented accommodation to drive an electric car.

Currently, the requirements only apply to parking spaces in garages, as this enables faster action according to traffic councilor Daniel Helldén (MP).
– If you have a garage space, you should get the simplest solution up and running for those who acquire cars. If you have surface parking, i.e. outdoors, you must first apply for a garage space. But then you will get it in all places, he says in the feature from Sveriges Radio.

Part of a major investment until 2030

So far, few charging stations have been installed at the municipal housing companies Familjebostäder, Svenska Bostäder and Stockholmshem, but at the same time it is stated in the radio feature that an increasing interest is being seen.

The investment is based on the objective to build 100,000 charging points in Stockholm by 2030, which was announced in October last year. It will include all parking spaces in the inner city and at least 80 percent of the parking spaces outside the city.
In connection with this, Daniel Helldén told Sveriges Radio, among other things, that "there may be technological developments that change this, but in 2026 we have a control station and can change the goals".
