It will now be easier to charge your electric car in Stockholm. If a tenant requires a charging point for their electric car, the landlord must install a charging box, according to a decision by the City of Stockholm.

Municipal housing companies must now install electric car chargers if tenants want it, writes Allt Om Elbil and refers to Swedish Radio. This is a decision from the green-blue majority in the city of Stockholm, which makes it easier for those living in rental housing to drive an electric car.

So far, the requirements only cover parking space in garages, as this, according to the Minister of Transport, Daniel Helldén (MP), enables faster action.
- If you have a garage space, you should get the easiest solution for those who get cars. If you have surface parking, i.e. outdoors, you will have to look for a garage space in the first step. But then you will get on all sites, he says in the broadcast from Swedish Radio.

Part of a major effort to 2030

So far, few charging stations have been installed at the municipal housing companies Familjebostäder, Svenska Bostäder and Stockholmshem, but at the same time, the radio report notes that there is increasing interest.

The initiative is based on the goal of building 100,000 charging stations in Stockholm by 2030, announced last October. It will cover all parking spaces in the inner city and at least 80 percent of the parking spaces outside the city.
In connection with this, Daniel Helldén told Swedish Radio that "there may be technological developments that change this, but in 2026 we have a checkpoint and can change the targets".
