Denmark's offshore wind power production will increase to 12.9 gigawatts, which is five times as much as is produced today. Add to that an ambitious investment in solar cells, and the two green energy sources will together quadruple renewable electricity production compared to today.
It was presented by the Danish government during the weekend and was something that had broad parliamentary support, according to an article in SvD.
– With this agreement, Denmark will become a large green power plant for the whole of Europe, says Climate Minister Dan Jørgensen (S) in a statement.
It is a step in the country's climate goals for 2030, but the decision-making has become even more relevant as a result of the conflict in Ukraine, as around 400,000 Danish homes are still heated with gas.
– It makes us vulnerable to Russia's influence on gas supply, and it is bad for the climate and the wallets of Danes, says Jørgensen.
