The government and suppliers want, basically, the same thing: to create common payment solutions and technical platforms for charging electric cars. This is what DN writes in an article after a meeting between Energy and Digitalization Minister Anders Ygeman and various charging suppliers. But it is still a bit apart on how it should be implemented.
"The result of the meeting was a step in the right direction, but an inadequate one. We must continue to work and find an easy way for electric car drivers to purchase electricity at public charging posts using a common means of payment. Three, seven, nine apps on the mobile should not be needed," Anders Ygeman told DN.
"Don't have the same reality description"
His goal is for payment by regular credit cards at charging posts, and without the use of various apps, to become a reality before the end of the year. But Pär Möller, who is a representative of the combined industry, would like to see a more digital solution.
"As an industry, we have a positive dialogue with Anders Ygeman. But we don't always have the same reality description – we see that our customers use apps to a large extent as a means of payment, and to a lesser extent credit cards," he told DN.
What both the government and the suppliers, on the other hand, agreed on at the meeting is the value of creating a trade association for electric car charging operators.
Used credit card solution for several years
SBP has been following the development, and problem, of payment solutions for charging posts for a number of years. Andreas Backström, CEO of SBP, explains that they identified the challenges early on and has therefore developed a credit card solution for many customers.
"We at SBP have seen that our customers have demanded simplicity and independence when it comes to charging possibilities, both for staff and visitors. That's why two years ago we launched a completely independent charging solution that means anyone can stop and recharge in a public place. The only requirement is that you should have access to a credit card and mobile at the time of charging, but it does not require an app or a customer account to charge your electric car.
