7,640. That is how many solar cell installations were pre-registered in March. It is worth comparing this with the previous record, set just the month before, of 5,200 – a huge development in the Swedish solar energy market. The number of connected solar cell installations, over 4,100, also beats previous records.
According to the organization Svensk Solenergi, this is also a sign of how established solar cells have become as a recognized energy source.
"It is basically an underlying long-term positive trend, with solar energy being the fastest growing energy source both globally and in Sweden. This has been reinforced by the recent exceptionally high electricity prices," Anna Werner, CEO of Svensk Solenergi, told Dagens Industri.
"Electricity price shock a cold shower"
The high demand to power one's property with solar energy is not only considered to be due to the high electricity prices, but also economic uncertainties due to the war in Ukraine. Therefore, more and more people want to be largely self-sufficient in their electricity production, which the figures are considered to be proof of - compared to the corresponding period last year, the number of pre-registrations represents an increase of 110 percent.
"The electricity price shock has been a real cold shower, and more and more people are now choosing to invest in reducing their exposure to the electricity market by investing in their own electricity production by installing solar cells," says Anna Werner.
