7.640. That's how many solar PV installations were pre-registered in March. This is worth comparing with the last record, set just a month before, of 5,200 - a huge development in the Swedish solar energy market. The number of connected solar installations, over 4100, also breaks previous records.
According to the organisation Svensk Solenergi, it is also a sign of how established solar PV has become as a recognised energy source.
- It is basically an underlying long-term positive trend where solar energy is the fastest growing energy source both globally and in Sweden. It has then been reinforced by the recent exceptionally high electricity prices, says Anna Werner, CEO of Svensk Solenergi, to Dagens Industri.
"Electric shocks and cold showers"
The high demand to power their property on solar energy is not only considered to be due to the high electricity prices, but also economic uncertainties due to the war in Ukraine. Therefore, more and more people want to become largely self-sufficient in their electricity production, which the figures are considered to be proof of - in comparison to the corresponding period last year, the number of pre-registrations represents an increase of 110 percent.
- The electricity price shock has been a real cold shower and more and more people are now choosing to reduce their exposure to the electricity market by investing in their own electricity production by installing solar cells, says Anna Werner.
