For 80 minutes, the city of Onslow in Australia was powered entirely by renewable energy using innovative microgrid technology. This is according to PV-tech, an international news site about sustainable energy, in an article.
It is the first time Australia has used similar technology, which, according to the news site, is based on a distributed energy resource system with the abbreviation DERMS. The system uses predictive analysis to maximize the amount of renewable energy used in the grid and to strengthen network stability.
Wants to take the technology out into the world
Patrick Lee, CEO of PXiSE Energy Solutions, one of the actors behind the project, states in the article that the project in Onslow demonstrably shows the possibilities for communities to be run entirely on solar energy.
– The technology has broad applications for the entire world, he says.
Further tests will be conducted to continue operating on green energy in the city later this year, which is the goal of the project. The primary goal of the tests is to increase understanding of the technology's potential and, in the long term, allow it to be the main energy source in future cities.
