Mechanical workshop is now powered by solar energy

December 12, 2023
Vrena Mekaniska Verkstad has recently had a solar energy system completed and will be commissioned in the near future to receive the first rays of the sun in 2024. The facility was made possible in part by our Solar-as-a-service solution and will contribute over 230,000 kWh to production each year.

In the small Sörmland village of Bettna, about 30 km northwest of Nyköping, a major investment has been made in the name of sustainability. 643 solar panels will provide over 230,000 kWh of solar energy to Vrena Mekaniskaverkstad's operations with sheet metal/welding, machining, surface treatment and assembly. With their slogan "you design - we manufacture", they value green energy to achieve sustainable production for their customers.
– We all have to do our bit and generate the electricity we can. For us, solar panels on the roof became what we could contribute in the short term, says Hans-Erik Olsson, CEO of Vrena Mekaniska Verkstad.

They made their investment with SBP's Solar-as-a-service solution, which means that SBP takes the entire investment initially.
– It was SBP's setup that felt most interesting, partly because of how the financing model looked and partly because it includes free service for the entire contract period.

The business model enables low net expenses during the 10-year collaboration period and scalability to expand the investment in the future. At the same time, SBP ensures production throughout the contract period.
– We are happy and proud to generate renewable electricity together with Vrena Mekaniska without hindering investments in their core business or claiming other internal resources. With this solution, Vrena Mekaniska contributes to sustainable development while maintaining focus on developing what they do best, says Herman Karlsson, Senior Account Advisor at SBP.
