Citycon has the ambition to become climate neutral by 2030 and shows a strong commitment to the green transition. Spread over an area equivalent to about 1.5 football pitches, solar cells are now being built that are estimated to be able to power one-fifth of Åkersberga Shopping Centre's electricity consumption.
In addition to system components and parts from world-leading manufacturers, the facility will also include some of the industry's highest safety features.
- Åkersberga Centrum is the heart of Österåker Municipality and it is gratifying that Citycon and their entire organization show such a strong commitment to the environment and sustainability. Even during all the planning phases of the project, they have shown a great willingness and forward thinking, says Alexander Backström, Project Manager at SBP.
Securing the future with "Co-operation"
The 500 kW plant has an estimated annual production of 420,000 kWh/year and in system terms it corresponds to about 100 residential installations.
In addition, Citycon has secured all service, support and ongoing operational issues for 10 years. We at SBP take care of this as a supplier, as the cooperation is based on our "Co-operation" model, which in summary means that Citycon has not had to make any investment for the solar plant. Service and support is handled both digitally and physically when needed via real-time connection to the plant, where we perform remote support and analyse system data and energy production, among other things. The model is part of our SaaS service, abbreviated from Solar As A Service.
For Citycon, however, this installation will not be a one-off.
- We have wanted to do this for a long time and have carefully researched which roof surfaces are suitable. Now we are starting with Åkersberga Centrum and then I hope we can do something similar in Mölndal Galleria, which has similar conditions. Citycon aims to be carbon neutral by 2030 and on the way there, all our centres will produce or recycle energy for their own consumption in various ways, says Marcus Rylander, Group Property Manager at Citycon, through the company's own channels.
