The treatment plant, which is being built by NCC on behalf of Österåker municipality, will be equipped with solar panels both on the roof and parts of the facade to maximize solar energy production. The total capacity is estimated to be around 500 kW and the entire project is expected to be completed in 2029, which means that the solar cell installation will be carried out in stages in line with the other construction work.
The facility was developed in dialogue with the Selatek Group, which is responsible for the electrical contract in the project.
The new wastewater treatment plant will be operated by Roslagsvatten and is part of Österåker municipality's larger investment in sustainable infrastructure solutions, designed to improve water quality in the municipality.
Facade installation of solar energy
What makes the project unique is the investment in solar cells even on the facades, which complements the roof installations for a higher total energy production. This initiative helps to strengthen Österåker municipality's environmental profile.
– I myself grew up in the municipality and admire this major investment. I am even more pleased that we at SBP get to take part in the environmental investment that they are making in connection with this profile project. It clearly signals how the municipality intends to participate in the green transition even in the future and will inspire others to take the step towards solar energy as a primary energy source, says Alexander Backström
