Over the past seven months, the number of pre-registrations for solar panels has increased by 36 percent compared to 2020, according to Svensk Solenergi. If the trend continues, this would imply a 52 percent increase for the full year.

In May of this year, 3,500 pre-registrations were made for solar panel installations to electricity companies, which is the highest figure for 2021 so far. Adding up the first seven months of the year, the figure is approximately 19,000 pre-registrations - which is 36 percent higher than the corresponding period last year.

For the past two years, the number of installations has followed a linear trend, writes Svensk Solenergi in a press release. Should the trend continue this year as well, it would mean that the number of installations increases by 52 percent from the previous year. Then, the number of solar panel installations in the country would also exceed 100,000 in total.

Fewer installations during the extreme heat

However, the pace slowed somewhat during the summer, which is a trend that Svensk Solenergi has also observed in previous years.
"This can be explained by the extreme heat, which caused some private individuals to choose to go on vacation and postpone or bring forward their installations. July was a weaker month even last year and the year before than April–June", the association writes in the press release.

The survey was compiled by keeping statistics for three electricity companies that together account for 60 percent of the market, and through these figures, an average for the entire market was produced.
