The production and utilization of electricity produced from the sun continues to increase. During 2020, there was 1090 MW of installed solar cell power in Sweden, which is an increase of 56 percent from 2019. This is shown by Energiindikatorn, the Swedish Energy Agency's annual report on developments in the country's energy system.
The reason for the continued positive curve is, among other things, that solar cells are becoming cheaper in combination with higher technical quality.
"Policy instruments such as the electricity certificate system and the solar cell support are a reason for the increase. At the same time, cost reductions and technological development for both wind and solar power have contributed to an increased expansion," can be read in the Swedish Energy Agency's report.
Huge increase for rechargeable vehicles
Renewable electricity production is taking up more space in the total electricity production, with a 59.2 percent share in 2019. That is an increase of just over three percentage points compared to the previous year. Wind and hydropower also account for a large part of the increase.
The largest increase, however, can be found in the automotive industry. The number of newly registered vehicles in the transport sector that are powered by electricity increased by a full 80 percent (!) during 2020 compared to the previous year.
