Electricity production from solar cells increased by 56 per cent compared to the previous year. This is shown by the Swedish Energy Agency in the annual report The Energy Indicator.

The production and use of electricity produced from the sun continues to increase. In 2020, there were 1090 MW of installed solar power in Sweden, which is an increase of 56 percent from 2019. This is shown by the Energy Indicator, the Swedish Energy Agency's annual report on developments in the country's energy system.
The reason for the continued positive curve is, among other things, that solar cells are becoming increasingly cheaper in combination with higher technical quality.

"Instruments such as the electricity certificate system and the PV support are one reason for the increase. At the same time, cost reductions and technology development for both wind and solar power have contributed to an increased expansion", reads the Swedish Energy Agency's report.

Huge increase for rechargeable vehicles

In total electricity production, renewable electricity production takes up more space, with a 59.2 percent share in 2019. This is an increase of just over three percentage points compared to the previous year. Wind and hydropower also account for a large part of the increase.

The largest increase, on the other hand, can be found in the automotive industry. The number of newly registered vehicles in the transport sector powered by electricity increased by as much as 80 percent (!) in 2020 compared to the previous year.
