Wåhlin Fastigheter continues to strengthen its efforts to improve energy efficiency and future-proof its properties. As part of this initiative, SBP has installed a new battery storage system in the Hallonbergen area.

The project comprises two battery storage systems with a total capacity of 120 kW and 168 kWh, installed in two separate buildings. When both systems are operational, they will be able to interact with solar cell installations within the same project and help to stabilize the electricity grid.

"This project is the latest part of Wåhlin Fastigheter's initiative to future-proof and energy-efficient its properties with green technology. The battery systems are combined with solar cell installations and will, among other things, increase the proportion of solar energy in consumption and contribute to society through frequency regulation," says Johan Braunerhielm, project manager at SBP.

SBP and Wåhlin Fastigheter have collaborated for several years on both solar cell installations and energy storage solutions. A total of 1,122 kW of solar energy has been installed in the portfolio, and with the new installations, energy storage also amounts to a total of 420 kW and 628 kWh.

"The key to successful collaboration has been a clear common goal: to combine sustainability, cost efficiency, and long-term value creation. Wåhlin is a customer that works strategically with energy issues, which makes the projects both efficient and high-quality to implement," says Johan Braunerhielm.

Integrated energy storage in residential buildings

Installing battery storage in apartment buildings involves specific requirements in terms of design and safety.

"The combination of solar energy and advanced battery storage systems in newly constructed residential buildings makes this project particularly interesting. It requires careful planning, fire safety adaptations, and close coordination with property management to ensure both safe installation and future management," says Johan Braunerhielm.

For property owners with large housing portfolios, investing in solar energy and energy storage offers several advantages.

"It makes properties more self-sufficient, reduces sensitivity to high or volatile electricity prices, and reduces power peaks that can otherwise result in high grid costs. At the same time, it contributes to lower climate impact and prepares properties for the energy market of the future," says Johan Braunerhielm.

Commissioning tests are underway and the plant is expected to be operational shortly.
