SBP and Citycon have jointly installed a 500 kW solar panel system at Åkersberga Centrum, north of Stockholm. Earlier this winter, the project was highlighted in several industry media outlets.
The 1200 panels placed on the roof generate 450,000 kWh each year for the shopping center, which has nearly 60 stores, restaurants and cafes.
– Solar energy is particularly attractive for commercial properties, as they usually have high energy costs, says Andreas Backström, CEO of SBP, in the publications.
SBP manages the facility and also took the entire investment initially thanks to the Solar-as-a-service solution. At the same time, the shopping center gets all the electricity that is generated.
– With this type of as-a-service agreement, business owners start saving money from day one, without having to make any capital investment or repayment calculation. We are seeing a significant increase in the number of companies that choose this type of setup to transition to a more sustainable operation, continues Andreas Backström.
