Citycon and SBP's collaboration on a 500 kW solar plant has not gone unnoticed. Several media outlets have now highlighted the photovoltaic installation, which donates around 450,000 kWh to the shopping center every year.

SBP and Citycon have jointly installed a 500 kW solar cell system at Åkersberga Centrum, north of Stockholm. Earlier this winter, the project was highlighted in several industry media.
The 1200 panels on the roof generate 450,000 kWh each year for the shopping center, which has nearly 60 shops, restaurants and cafes.

- "Solar energy is particularly attractive for commercial properties, as they usually have high energy costs," said Andreas Backström, CEO of SBP, in the publications.

SBP manages the facility and also took the entire investment initially thanks to the Solar-as-a-service solution. At the same time, the shopping center receives all the electricity generated.
- With this type of as-a-service agreement, business owners start saving money from day one, without having to make any capital investment or payback calculation. We are seeing a significant increase in the number of companies choosing this type of arrangement to transition to more sustainable operations," Andreas Backström continues.

The sender of the news articles is SolarEdge, whose power optimization technology installed at this facility maximizes the performance of each individual panel and minimizes the effects of shading, among other features.

It was in 2022 that the facility was completed and Citycon determined that it was just the start of their sustainable journey. You can read that article here.
